How Much Does a Machu Picchu Trip Cost from the USA?

The total Machu Picchu trip cost has three parts: your flight to Peru, the flight from Lima to Cusco, and the package on the ground. Flight prices change by season and city, so we do not quote them; check them for your own dates.

On the ground, our packages cost $479 for 3 days, $969 for 5 days and $1,290 for 7 days per person. Budget extra for lunches and dinners, tips, travel insurance and any add-ons such as Huayna Picchu.

Machu Picchu Packages With Airfare: Why Ours Start in Cusco

Some Machu Picchu vacation packages with airfare bundle flights from the US. Ours start at Cusco airport, which lets you use airline miles, pick your own US departure city and fly when fares are lowest.

Most US travelers fly into Lima, then take a short domestic flight to Cusco. Read our Lima to Machu Picchu guide for the options.

Machu Picchu Tickets, Circuits and Huayna Picchu

Machu Picchu entry tickets are timed and limited each day, and they sell out early from May to September. Your ticket is included in every package, so we book it together with your train and hotel. Bring the passport you used to book.

Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain need their own tickets with even fewer spaces. Ask for them when you book if you want the extra climb.

Best Time to Book and Take a Machu Picchu Vacation

The dry season, May to September, has the clearest skies and the most visitors. April, October and November are quieter with some rain. January to March is the rainy season, and the Inca Trail closes in February, but Machu Picchu stays open.

Book 3 to 6 months ahead for June to August so tickets, trains and hotels are still available.

Altitude: How Our Itineraries Help

Cusco sits at 3,400 m (11,150 ft), higher than Machu Picchu at 2,430 m (7,970 ft). The 5 and 7 day packages give you an easy first day in Cusco and lower nights in the Sacred Valley or Aguas Calientes before harder days such as Rainbow Mountain. See our Machu Picchu altitude guide for tips.
